red

This is from my ephemera collection. I love it because it is red, of course. There is not much I can resist when it involves red. When it is as cute as this illustration, how could you resist loving it? It is from a 1957 issue of Highlights magazine. The print at the top says "Which child is more free?" This was one of those open ended teaching opportunities to have a discussion with a child and have them accidentally learn something.
Do you remember playing the little games inside Highlight's magazine? My favorite game was trying to find all the differences between two pictures that seem alike but in fact weren't and also finding all the everyday objects cleverly hidden in a complicated drawn scene.
As a child I was able to read these at the dentist and doctor's offices as we didn't subscribe at our house. My kids are lucky enough that they were given a subscription as an ongoing gift. All of them enjoy it. Even as a grown up I find the games fun. This issue, was around before I was born.
