Lots of fun in ugly shoes

The other night, after being at the hospital all day with my dad, I decided VERY spur of the moment to go bowling with the kids. And so off we went!! The time spent with my dad over the last week was very important; I just needed to do something fun and silly and totally different than sitting in a hospital for some stress relief!! I have not gone bowling in almost 8 years!!
Where else can you go and have so much fun for $2 a game and have the bonus of looking dorky in ugly shoes too?! While we're on the subject of ugly...how 'bout that carpeting!!?

We had a blast. It was super cool to have N. keep score for us and use his addition skills. It was an aha moment for him to realise that all that boring repetitive math could be combined with fun outside of school.

My boy really needs a haircut. We have started to call him "Shaggy"

 N. is the incredible growing boy. He is Mr. Bigfoot wearing a size 5 already and only 7 yrs. old!!

I love this bowling alley. It is stuck in a time warp and has been pretty much untouched by the 21st century around it. It refuses to become high tech and flashy. Do you remember the bowling alley in the movie Pleasantville (with Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire and William H. Macy)? It reminds me of that one. I love that movie!!! "HONEY, I'm home! Honey, where's my dinner??"

Whenever any of us got a gutter ball we said it was because we were in the end lane and it must be warped!!
This is E. watching her ball go straight down the middle of the lane.
(An aside comment=E. is 16 now and has her hair dyed BLACK. JET BLACK!! She is a blonde. E. said she wanted her hair to look like her daddy's. I told her that her daddy's hair is not jet black, it is brown-black.
A's [age 12] response to her sister's hair-- "all teenagers are dumb"! )
Back to bowling~I have to admit to you that it took a few frames for my ball to do what it was supposed to. I told the kids I was bowling badly on purpose. I don't think they bought that!! I did end up with one strike and A. picked up three spares. N. got half way to 100!! Not bad for his first time ever.

Oh my gosh! I don't think I have bowled in over ten years. And I was not any good then. But, it does look like fun!
I just gave you an award on my blog. Go see!
